How Often Should I Re-seal My Granite Countertops?
Posted November 5th
Most protective sealers are rated for at least 3-5 years.
Regardless of the brand or rating of the protective sealer being applied, however, the time between sealing your granite countertops varies depending on use.
For example, abrasive or acidic cleaning products such as Comet will eat away at granite sealers. Using these products on your granite countertops will make the time between sealings more frequent. To get the most out of your granite sealer, avoid using any abrasive or acidic cleaning products.
The rise in popularity of granite countertops has led most cleaning product manufacturers to add a line of cleaners specificly engineered for granite countertops. For example, Formula 409 recently introduced a Natural Stone Cleaner which is formulated for use on granite counterstops, and is available in the cleaning product aisle at most grocery stores.
Personally, I clean the granite countertops at my home with soap and water. Granite is naturally antimicrobial and a mild soap will sufficiently clean the surface, while not harming the integrity of the protective sealer.

When it comes to sealing natural stone countertops, I strongly recommend StoneTech Bulletproof sealer by DuPont. Though Jackson Stoneworks has no official affiliation with DuPont, we do include a free bottle of their StoneTech Bulletproof sealer with every Jackson Stoneworks granite vanity top sold at Lowe’s; simply because we have found it to be the best product on the market.
