A: All surfaces are subject to stains if not cleaned and cared for properly. Once your granite counter top has been sealed properly with a high quality impregnating sealer, the sealer will protect the counter top surface from stains with normal usage.
Q: How often should I seal my granite counter top?
A: You may seal your granite counter tops as often as you care to. Sealer permanence varies depending on the type of stone and your usage. You are recommended to test the effectiveness of your sealer by sprinkling water on the granite. If the water forms beads on the surface, the sealer is preventing liquids from penetrating the stone and is protecting your granite counter top from stains. Q: How do I clean my granite top?
A: Polished granite is a very durable stone; much harder than marble. Granite has been used in the past in the commercial industry in "high-traffic" areas. Granite will withstand almost any element it comes up against including heat and cold. A mild dish soap and water will work. But, a soap build up may occur over time if you don't rinse your countertops well. It's best to use products made specifically for stone. Q: Can I set hot items on my granite counter top?
A: You can set hot items on your granite countertop without worrying about charring or scorching your countertop. Granite is formed by extreme heat and pressure combined beneath the earths crust; therefore, it can withstand heat up to 1200F. It cannot be affected by heat from a curling iron. A lit flame placed under the granite will have no melting effect and will not leave any burned or scarred marks. It is however, not recommended to place hot items near seams or joints or quartz engineered stone surfaces.
Q: What are seams?
A: Seams are joints where two pieces of stone meet or join together. Granite slabs are very big but larger kitchens may need a seam or two. If you have curves, arches, or really long spans of granite you will usually need seams. They are located in out of the way places. We go out of our way to ensure that your seams, if any, are barely noticeable.
Q: Why are there pits, pores, or cracks in the stone?
A: Granite is a natural product of nature and is subject to variations in colors, shades and grain structure of the stone. Pitting and veining are natural occurrences in stone. Pits or pores are formed from small air pockets when the stone cooled and are common in many natural stone products. Veining adds character and beauty to the stone and sometimes is mistaken for cracks or imperfections in the stone.
